Trish: Geek Girl Con 2011

This past weekend I got to attend Day 2 of the 1st Ever GEEK GIRL CON!  I just happened to be visiting my bff in Seattle, for our annual mommy getaway weekend and we hit it up!  It was EPIC!  OK...it was small, but that made it sooooo wonderful.  Plus, they totally sold out!  Good for them and that means another one will be on it's way next year!
So, once we got our badges and swag bags, we headed into the exhibit hall.  There were about 50+ vendors...and we had fun hanging out with the great people at the Mandalorian Mercs booth.
We attended 3 panels that day, but our first and most favorite was the "Geeks raising geeks" panels.  I got to meet and talk to "Star Wars Katie" and her mom Carrie.  That was my favorite part of the whole day!  Katie is such a sweet and brave little girl and I really admire her mom and all she has done to bring awareness to bullying.  She has a book coming out next year on the subject.  (I'll try to keep you updated on that one!)
Plus, we got some yummy yoda cookies from JustJenn.  Thanks Jenn!

That's me talking to Katie and her mom!
Ms. Bonnie Burton was a guest at a few panels and also hosted a puppet craft lab.  I got to attend the
"Womanthology" panel.  This is such an amazing project...you need to check it out if you haven't already!
Me and Bonnie....*SQUEE*!!!!!
That's pretty much all the Star Wars things we did that day!  We also got in some Harry Potter, Roller Derby and a Labyrinth screening and sing-along with sock puppets!
We had such a great time and got to hang out with amazing Geek Girls from all over.  It was so nice that it was small....we could hang out and actually talk with the panelists.  I will make it a priority to attend the next one...both days!  I don't want to miss a thing! You should all join me next year!
Thank You Geek Girl Con!

Trish: George likes my son's school! *SQUEE*

George Lucas was interviewed by Forbes about his experience in Public Education and what he thinks "The Best Fix for K-12 Education" is.  Click HERE for the full article.  My son attends  one of the High Tech Schools in North San Diego County.  I love the education he is getting.  More importantly, he loves it!  He is thriving in this type of environment.  I just had to share because...well, I was totally geeking out when I saw that Mr. Lucas mentioned my kid's school!  Thanks for letting me share :-).

Trish: SWTCW Season 4 Premiere Party

Ok...I know it's almost been a week...but I just got the pictures from my camera uploaded.
Anyways, I had been real busy planning a surprise birthday party for my parents, so I couldn't go all out on a premiere party like last year.  But, I did manage to throw together a cool dinner for the kids.  I broke open the Star Wars Cookbook again, and instead of the 'TIE Fighter Ties', I made X-wings instead:
I threw together a fruit salad and named it-The Force Fruit Salad:
And last, but not least....we whipped up some Yoda Soda.
After our cool dinner, it was time for the show.
LOVED IT!  Can't wait for Part 2 tomorrow night!
Did anyone else celebrate the Season 4 Premiere?  I'm always looking for new ideas!

Trish: Wishing for Jedi Mind Tricks and Fun Wallpaper

I have been MIA the last few weeks, because school and work have resumed in my household.  And this year has been an especially difficult year, so far.  My daughter's 4th grade class, has already been through 3 teachers, and a new one starts tomorrow.  All because of mistakes made by the School District.  I so wish I was a jedi and had the power of the jedi mind trick.  This could have all gone away a week ago, and my daughter would still have her most favoritist (i know that's not a word...) teacher back!

On a happier note.....look what I stumbled accross today:
Officially Licensed Star Wars Wallpaper!!!!
Check out our friend Amy Ratcliffe's article over at Nerd Approved for product information and links.

Trish: Surfing Trooper

My husband is a surfer who loves Star Wars and our new favorite blog to follow is The Surfing Trooper.  We  came upon a vintage Stormtrooper helment in my in-laws recent move, and my hubby will be donning the helmet on his next surf adventure to hopefully add to the collection.  Check it out...and if you surf too...grab your helmet and camera and add some of your own!

Trish: Custom painted Star Wars heels for a night on the town...

Look what I found over at helablog.com.:

Each pair of these wicked cool Star Wars heels and Star Trek shoes is hand painted by Silva (eastbaycalifornia). She claims the images will hold up in water and will not chip…and if you ask her nicely, she’ll even add different characters – Like possibly Boba Fett or Tribbles.

$300?  A little to pricey for me...

Trish: First Day of School Fashion

Today was the first day of school for our family.  And these 2 could not wait to wear their newest Star Wars shirts!

Here's my Kindergartner (it's hard not to cry while I write this...yes, I'm one of those moms...)-
wearing his Lego Boba Fett t-shirt purchased at Wal-Mart.
And here is my only daughter and 4th grader this year, wearing the Padme Nouveau t-shirt from Her Universe. She picked this up at SDCC. I love the fact that she wanted to wear this so badly on the first day!

Trish: "How Lightsabers Work"...in case you were wondering...

The people over at HowStuffWorks, have put together a very interesting and helpful article, for those of you interested in learning "how these remarkable weapons work".

Important Safety Information
A lightsaber is not a toy! Keep it out of reach of children at all times. Lightsaber locks are required in most states. There are two ends to any lightsaber -- one end has the belt ring, while the other end houses the blade arc tip and blade emitter. NEVER point the blade emitter of a lightsaber toward your own body. NEVER look down the "barrel" of a lightsaber, even if you are "sure" it is in safe mode. If you accidentally activate the lightsaber, serious injury could result.
